DAXXIFY®

DAXXIFY® is a novel neurotoxin much like Botox or Dysport, but may last up to twice as long.  The FDA recently approved DAXXIFY® for the treatment of frown lines.

Lumiere Med Spa is pleased to announce that we have been selected to be one of the first Med Spa to offer this new and exciting treatment option.

 Causes of Wrinkles/Facial Lines

A number of factors contribute to the formation of facial lines. Decreased collagen production as we age, genetics, environmental damage, and sun damage may all play a role.

Facial lines are also formed by repeated muscle contractions such as frowning, or squinting. These facial expressions cause the skin to furrow and fold, which eventually leads to the formation of wrinkles.

DAXXIFY® works below the skin’s surface to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity responsible for moderate to severe frown lines.

Botulinum toxins like Botox, Xeomin and Dysport, are produced from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxins act by blocking the transmission of signals from nerves that cause muscular contractions. Botulinum toxin type A injections temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles between the brows, reducing their appearance.

DAXXIFY® is the only FDA-approved, long-lasting frown line treatment (neuromodulator) that smooths moderate to severe lines between the brows, lasting an average of 6 months and up to 9 months in some patients.

Before and After Daxxify

Am I a candidate for DAXXIFY®?

If you have moderate to severe frown lines and are not satisfied with the duration of your previous treatment, then you are a candidate for DAXXIFY®

How is DAXXIFY® different from botox or Dysport?

All neuromodulators like Botox, Xeomin and Dysport require a special ingredient to stabilize the active ingredient (botulinum toxin A), the protein responsible for relaxing the line lines and wrinkles.  For instance, Botox uses human serum albumin (HSA), a blood product, as its stabilizer. Dysport  also uses HSA as a stabilizer and cow’s milk protein as a protectant.

DAXXIFY® is unique since it is the only formulation that uses a novel peptide as a stabilizer and does not contain human serum albumin (HAS) or animal byproducts.

Where is DAXXIFY® made?

DAXXIFY® is manufactured in California, and is the only neurotoxin made in the United States. All of the other neurotoxins  are manufactured in other countries, then imported into the United States.

Will I need the same number of Units as my current treatment?

No, the equivalent units of D DAXXIFY® differ from botox,  Xeomin and Dysport. Your injectors will be aware of the proper conversion of units.

How was DAXXIFY® created?

In 2002, scientists began to explore the use of peptides for different therapeutic uses. The goal was to use peptides to transport large molecules, like botulinum toxin type A., through the skin.

Eventually, scientists determined that the formulation was optimally administered through injection.

In subsequent clinical studies involving frown lines, DAXXIFY® lasted on average 6 months and up to 9 months for some people.

Is DAXXIFY® safe?

DAXXIFY® was studied in the largest-ever clinical study which  included more than 2,800 people across different ages and skin types. These are some things you should know about DAXXIFY®:

  • There were no serious treatment-related side effects
  • The active ingredient in DAXXIFY® is botulinum toxin type A, an ingredient that has been used in treatments for more than 20 years
  • 96% of people treated with DAXXIFY® were satisfied with their results

Does DAXXIFY® work on all skin types?

Yes,

Since DAXXIFY®  is long-lasting, are the potential side effects long-lasting?

No, not necessarily. In clinical trials, potential side effects occurred within one to two weeks after injection and lasted only a short while. This is consistent with other botulinum A  treatments.

Preparing for your treatment

How should I prepare for my DAXXIFY® treatment?

Our injector will provide  pre-treatment instructions prior to your DAXXIFY® treatment

Avoid anything that can cause blood thinning, including aspirin, Motrin, Advil or fish oils containing Omega-3. Also avoid retina-A and topical steroids.

DAXXIFY® should be avoided in pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Does DAXXIFY® treatment hurt?

DAXXIFY®  injections are typically performed with a small needle similar to other Botulinum toxin A treatments.

If you are concerned about discomfort, your injector can minimize pain by icing the area or applying a topical numbing cream. Treatment with DAXXIFY® requires minimal downtime, and you can return to your daily routine immediately after your treatment.

How often will I need to get DAXXIFY®?

Most patients receive a frown line treatment twice a year. Unfortunately, conventional treatments only last 3–4 months. If you are not able to get treated every 3-4 months, you will spend the next 2-3 months of the year with those frown lines staring back at you between treatments.

That is the difference with DAXXIFY® . With the. same 2 treatment visits, you can keep your frown lines smooth for a full year.

How quickly will I see results?

Patients report results with DAXXIFY® as early as the next day, and typically within two days.

I have an event coming up and want to try DAXXIFY® . When is the best time to get DAXXIFY®?

You should see noticeable results within a two-week time frame. You may experience mild injection-related bruising. In most cases, bruising heals within a few days after injection. Early results can be noticeable as soon as a day or two after treatment.

How is DAXXIFY® different from dermal fillers like Juvederm?

DAXXIFY® acts by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles.  Dermal fillers are typically made of hyaluronic acid and are used to add volume, fullness, and structure to areas of the face. Dermal fillers target volume loss rather than muscle-related wrinkles.
